John, you cannot compare home ownership in Europe to the USA unless you first point out several factors, including Europe's tendency to hold housing generationally (held in the family), the fact that people were there for 2,000 years before people came to the USA, and most importantly, population density per square mile in Europe is 3.7_+/- times that of the USA, more people more potential owners.
